Nessuna parola può venire scritta senza prima essere stata vista, e prima di trovare la strada fino alla pagina deve prima essere stata parte del corpo, una presenza fisica con cui si è vissuti...allo stesso modo in cui ognuno vive con il proprio cuore, il proprio stomaco ed il proprio cervello. La memoria, quindi, non tanto come passato che racchiudiamo in noi, ma come prova del nostro vivere nel presente. Se un uomo vuole infatti essere davvero presente fra le cose che lo circondano, non deve pensare a se stesso, ma a quello che vede. Deve dimenticare se stesso per essere lì.

unosolo, la project room di 1/9 unosunove, inaugura l’inizio della propria attività con una installazione site-specific realizzata da Elín Hansdóttir (Reykjavík, 1980). In occasione della sua prima mostra personale in Italia l’artista islandese ha lavorato profondamente sullo spazio e con lo spazio della project room per poterne sfruttare le peculiari caratteristiche architettoniche al fine di creare qualcosa che sembrasse familiare ma che allo stesso tempo portasse con sé i presupposti per una esperienza spaziale inaspettata. Alterando ciò che normalmente troveremmo al nostro ingresso, Elín Hansdóttir tenta di spostare l’attenzione da una situazione esterna all’esperienza intima del visitatore.
Le installazioni site-specific di Elín Hansdóttir assumono molteplici forme e includono illusioni ottiche e uditive, elementi architettonici mobili e tunnel labirintici. L’artista crea mondi autosufficienti che sembrano operare secondo proprie regole, trasformando completamente uno spazio in un altro che possa sfidare ogni nostra aspettativa e che sembra esistere solo in un momento particolare nel tempo. Sebbene le sue installazioni siano complicate in termini di progettazione e realizzazione tecnica, esse assumono un aspetto semplice, austero: il suo lavoro opera così come una sorta di pagina vuota pronta per essere riempita dall’esperienza e dall’interazione con l’osservatore.
Elín Hansdóttir vive e lavora a Berlino. Tra le più recenti mostre personali ricordiamo Parallax, Reykjavik Art Museum, Islanda (2009) e Path, Maribel Lopez Gallery, Berlino, Germania. Ha realizzato installazioni site-specific presso numerose istituzioni pubbliche internazionali quali il Den Frie Center of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen, Danimarca (2009), la National Gallery of Iceland (2008)ed il ZKM Karlsruhe, Germania (2007).
La mostra proseguirà fino a venerdì 8 gennaio 2010.

For no word can be written without first having been seen, and before it finds its way to the page it must first have been part of the body, a physical presence that one has lived with in the same way one lives with one´s heart, one´s stomach, and one´s brain. Memory, then, not so much as the past contained within us, but as proof of our life in the present. If a man is to be truly present among his surroundings he must be thinking not of himself, but of what he sees. He must forget himself in order to be there.

unosolo, the project room of 1/9 unosunove, inaugurates its activities with a site-specific installation by Elín Hansdóttir (Reykjavík, 1980). On the occasion of her first solo exhibition in Italy, the Icelandic artist has worked with and on the space of the project room to use its peculiar architectural characteristics and to create something that seems familiar but somehow brings with it the premises of an unexpected spacial experience. By altering what we would normally find upon entering a gallery space, she tries to ignite a shift of focus, from the outer situation onto the experience of the guest.
Elín Hansdóttir’s site-specific installations take many forms, including auditory or optical illusions, labyrinthian tunnels and motion-activated architectural elements. She creates self-contained worlds that seem to operate under their own set of rules, completely transforming a benign space into one that defies expectations and seems only to exist at a particular moment in time. Though her installations are complex in construction and technical craft, they take on a stark aesthetic, so that her work operates as a kind of blank slate for viewer experience and interaction.
Elín Hansdóttir lives and works in Berlin. Recent solo exhibitions include Parallax, Reykjavik Art Museum, Iceland (2009) and Path, Maribel Lopez Gallery, Berlin, Germany. She has created and installed work in a number of international venues including Den Frie Center of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen, Denmark (2009), the National Gallery of Iceland (2008), and the ZKM Karlsruhe, Germany (2007).
The exhibition will be on view until January 8th 2010.
