In occasione dell’inaugurazione della nuova sede milanese, unosolo, la project room di 1/9 unosunove, è lieta di annunciare la mostra personale di Raffaella Crispino (1979, Napoli).
No politics, no war, just simple stories presenta i lavori che l’artista ha realizzato durante la sua ultima residenza presso il JCVA di Gerusalemme e frutto di una rielaborazione di materiali appartenenti al suo archivio familiare legato alla guerra del Libano del 1984. Oggetti e immagini provenienti da temporalità diverse vengono qui messi in relazione per di aprire una nuova narrazione. Il titolo nega e al tempo stesso conferma una situazione di conflitti a cui fa eco l’interesse dell’artista verso i grandi temi raccontati attraverso una diretta esperienza su campo e storie di vita quotidiana.
Raffaella Crispino si interroga costantemente sui luoghi in cui si trova, ne osserva le caratteristiche rispettandone le diversità, porta alla luce contraddizioni e svela possibili affinità con il proprio luogo di origine e la propria storia personale. Lavori fotografici, archivi di immagini e oggetti ritrovati durante i frequenti viaggi, video ed installazioni ci restituiscono uno sguardo sulle culture israeliana e palestinese, il racconto di un viaggio che diventa un attento ritratto sociale, antropologico e politico senza mai perdere di vista il lato più emotivo e spontaneo.
Tra i lavori in mostra, il video Lebanon 1984 condensa il tema del conflitto, il fascino verso quelle terre orientali e una forte componente privata. Si tratta di una rielaborazione di un lungo film amatoriale realizzato dal padre dell’artista ai tempi in cui egli pilotava gli elicotteri dell’ONU durante la guerra del Libano nel 1984. Immagini di gente del luogo, voli e salvataggi in elicottero si alternano con scene goliardiche tra colleghi, accompagnate da una personale selezione musicale scelta degli stessi protagonisti. Un opera-reperto che nella leggerezza e spensieratezza dei suoi elementi racconta un quotidiano speciale con toni nostalgici, ironici, comici, e spesso anche eroici.
Raffaella Crispino vive e lavora a Napoli. Si è laureata in Arti Visive presso lo IUAV di Venezia e in scenografia presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli. Ha vinto due borse di studio con la New York University e con l'università UdK di Berlino. Lo scorso gennaio è stata invitata alla residenza artistica del JCVA di Gerusalemme curata da Nirith Nelson. Precedentemente ha partecipato alle residenza artistica del CCA-Kitakyushu in Giappone e del Casino Luxembourg. Tra le piu recenti mostre personali ricordiamo: Senza Titolo (Inno Nazionale Italiano), a cura di Sottobosco, Chan Arte, Genova (2009); Transit 3, a cura di A. Rispoli, M. Sheleff e E. Viola, CCA Contemporary Art Center, Tel Aviv (2009); La Casa dei Sette Conti, a cura di Jota Castro, One Piece Contemporary Art Gallery, Roma (2007). Attualmente partecipa alla Biennale di Paesaggistica di Bat-Yam in Israele con un’installazione urbana permanente.
La mostra proseguirà fino a sabato 30 ottobre 2010.

On the occasion of the inaugural opening of its new venue in Milan, unosolo, the project room of 1/9 unosunove is pleased to announce the solo show by Italian artist Raffaella Crispino (1979, Naples).
No politics, no war, just simple stories presents the artworks that the artist created during her last residence at the JCVA in Jerusalem and which are the result of an elaboration of materials belonging to her personal memory and related to the war in Lebanon in 1984. Objects and images from different times and places are now connected to unfold a new story. The title both denies and confirms a moment of conflict, echoing the interest of the artist for these important themes which are described through direct esperiences and everyday life.
Raffaella Crispino constantly poses questions about the places she visits: she observes their characteristics respecting their differences, she reveals contraddictions while unveiling possible references with her homeland and personal history. Photos, archives of objects and images found during her frequent travels, video and installations offer a view of the Israeli and Palestinian cultures, the story of a journey that turns into a careful social, anthropological and political portrayal always mantaining a profound human and spontaneous aspect.
The video Lebanon 1984 well combines the theme of conflict, the fascination towards those middle-eastern countries and a strong personal feature. It is the elaboration of a long amateur film shot by the father of the artist while he was serving as a helicopter pilot during the Lebanon war in 1984. Images of local people, flights and rescues alternated with jokes and playful moments are accompanied by a personal selection of songs chosen by the protagonists themselves. It is an artwork that narrates with delicacy and lightness a very special daily life with nostalgic, ironic, funny and sometimes heroic tones.
Raffaella Crispino lives and works in Naples. She received a Master in Visual Arts at the IUAV in Venice and graduated in Set Design from the Fine Arts Academy in Naples. She was awarded a scholarship from the New York University and from the Berlin UdK University, and was artist-in-residence at the CCA-Kitakyushu in Japan and at the Casino Luxembourg. In January 2010 she was invited to the JCVA Jerusalem curated by Nirith Nelson. Recent solo exhibitions include: Senza Titolo (Inno Nazionale Italiano), curated by Sottobosco, Chan Arte, Genoa, Italy (2009); Transit 3, curated by A. Rispoli, M. Sheleff and E. Viola, CCA Contemporary Art Center, Tel Aviv, Israel (2009); La Casa dei Sette Conti, curated by Jota Castro, One Piece Contemporary Art Gallery, Rome, Italy (2007). She is currently exhibiting at the Biennale of Landscape Urbanism in Bat –Yam (Israel) with a permanent installation.
The exhibition will be on view until Saturday, October 30th, 2010.
