versioni di una gatto-rana dal bestiario di raimundas malašauskas
Il metodo della psicodiagnostica basato sulla lettura e interpretazione di macchie d’inchiostro venne sviluppata dallo psichiatra svizzero Hermann Rorschach nel 1921. Noto come ‘test di Rorschach’ rimane ancora oggi uno tra i dieci principali test psicologici utilizzati in tutto il mondo per determinare le caratteristiche di una personalità e lo stato di salute mentale di un individuo.
Hermann Rorschach (1884 - 1922) fu anche un artista abile e affermato che espresse attraverso i suoi disegni e acquerelli il proprio interesse verso l’ambiguità delle immagini ancora prima di dedicarsi al metodo della diagnosi psichica. Tra le varie creature che rappresentò ci fu ‘La Chat Grenouille’ (la gatto-rana), una creatura a metà tra un gatto e una rana. Il muso è nascosto all’osservatore, mentre il dorso potrebbe rappresentare allo stesso tempo quello di un gatto o di una rana.
Affascinato dalle molteplici ambiguità insite in un’immagine, Raimundas Malašauskas ha chiesto ad alcuni artisti di realizzare versioni della rana-gatto da includere nel suo bestiario*. Il suo intento è quello di suscitare interpretazioni soggettive della riproduzione, anche se il confronto con il gatto-rana ha sollevato allo stesso tempo riflessioni sulla simmetria, diagnosi psichica ed economia. Il risultato di queste differenti interpretazioni varia dalla scultura al disegno e alla musica.
Un autoritratto di Raimundas Malašauskas realizzato da Alexandre Guirkinger e curato dallo stesso Malašauskas si unirà alle versioni della gatto-rana realizzate da Pierre Bismuth, Judith Braun, Liudvikas Buklys, Celine Butaye, Etienne Chambaud, Audrey Cottin, Mariana Castillo Deball, Jason Kalogiros, Pierre Leguillon, Nicholas Matranga, John Menick, Aurélien Mole, Milena Muzquiz, Elena Narbutaite e da un artista sconosciuto.
*Il bestiario di Raimundas Malašauskas contiene creature che non hanno necessariamente seguito le naturali leggi evolutive, ma che sono state immaginate e create da artisti. "Il mio bestiario scaturisce da un interesse cripto-museologico verso animali immaginari come l’unicorno, o figure mentali come il Gatto di Schrödinger o verso creature sconosciute, non catalogate, ancora da scoprire. Vi ricordate quando Milkshake in Aqua Teen Hunger Force ha accidentalmente creato Hand Banana, il cane, immergendo la mano nella vasca di Carl? several versions of a cat-frog from the bestiary of raimundas malašauskas
The method of psycho-diagnostics based on inkblot reading was developed by the Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach in 1921. Known as the Rorschach test it still remains among the 10 main psychological tests worldwide used in identifying personality characteristics and the state of mental health.
Hermann Rorschach (1884 - 1922) was also an accomplished artist whose drawings and water-colors expressed his interest in the ambiguity of images before he turned it into a method of psycho-diagnostics. Among various creatures he depicted was La Chat Grenouille, a creature ‘fluctuating’ between a cat and a frog. Its face is hidden from us, yet its back belongs to cat and frog at the same time.
Fascinated by the multiple ambiguities of an image, Raimundas Malašauskas asked some artists to make copies of the cat-frog for his bestiary*. His interest was to instigate individual interpretations of copy-making, however dealing with the cat-frog brought on issues of symmetry, psycho-diagnostics and economy. The spectrum of results ranges from sculptures to paintings and to a song.
A specially curated self-portrait of Malašauskas taken by Alexandre Guirkinger will join the company of the cat-frogs made by Pierre Bismuth, Judith Braun, Liudvikas Buklys, Celine Butaye, Etienne Chambaud, Audrey Cottin, Mariana Castillo Deball, Jason Kalogiros, Pierre Leguillon, Nicholas Matranga, John Menick, Aurélien Mole, Milena Muzquiz, Elena Narbutaite and by an unknown artist.
*Malašauskas’ bestiary contains creatures that didn't necessary follow natural evolution laws, but were created or befriended by artists. "My bestiary stems from a crypto-museological interest in imaginary animals like unicorn or thought figures like Schrödinger's Cat or unnamed, uncategorised, not yet discovered creatures. Remember when Milkshake of Aqua Teen Hunger Force accidentally created Hand Banana, the dog, by dipping his hand into Carl's pool? These type of creatures are there" he explains (conversation with Jonas Zakaitis, Spike 24 - 2010).
The exhibition will be on view until Saturday, December 11, 2010.
