presenta la mostra

my name is wendy

marysia gacek

unosolo è lieta di annunciare My Name is Wendy, la prima mostra personale in Italia dell’artista polacca Marysia Gacek.

Marysia Gacek (1986, Nowy Targ, Polonia) ha studiato presso la School of Visual Arts, New York. Tra le recenti mostre personali: This attitude does not necessarily open them to criticism, especially when they contributed to the preservation of well-being (con Natalie Häusler), PS122 Gallery, New York (2010); Certain Rhymes, Vagabond Schmarotzer Gallery, New York (2010). Una selezione di mostre collettive include Closed for installation, 303 Gallery staff group show: Past and Present, 303 Gallery, New York (2010); Give me a minute, The Shirey, Brooklyn, New York (2010). Lavori video dell’artista sono stati presentati al II Tranzyt International Documentary Festival, Poznan, Poland (2010) e in occasione di Zbylut Grzywacz (1939-2004), City Art Gallery, Lodz; National Museum of Krakow, Poland (2010). Marysia Gacek vive e lavora a New York.

La mostra proseguirà fino a sabato 11 giugno 2011.

is pleased to announce the exhibition

my name is wendy

marysia gacek

unosolo is pleased to announce My Name is Wendy, the first solo exhibition in Italy by Polish artist Marysia Gacek. By starting with an image, a specific memory, or an object, Marysia Gacek creates structures and narratives with loose connections using personal symbolism and different modes of representation. Painting, domestic objects and Internet information blend together as a visual form of storytelling: although the assembled objects may read as enigmatic, the unusual combination always offers a portal that could lead to a wider understanding.

References to painting, folk art and film dialogue with allusions to fitness, interior decoration and crafts, creating invisible lines between forms, cultural references and memories. The used materials belong to her personal life as well as to her surrounding reality: in Gacek’s landscapes we can find Polish mountains, suburban America, TV and art magazines. Objects and images from different times and places connect to unfold a new story, often woven into the materials themselves: the use of clay to allude to the characteristics of flesh, or the cotton to suggest comfort.

Marysia Gacek (b.1986, Nowy Targ, Poland) received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York. Recent shows include This attitude does not necessarily open them to criticism, especially when they contributed to the preservation of well-being (with Natalie Häusler), PS122 Gallery, New York (2010); Certain Rhymes, Vagabond Schmarotzer Gallery, New York (2010). Selected group shows include Closed for installation, 303 Gallery staff group show: Past and Present, 303 Gallery, New York (2010); Give me a minute, The Shirey, Brooklyn, New York (2010). Her work was screened at II Tranzyt International Documentary Festival, Poznan, Poland (2010) and during Zbylut Grzywacz (1939-2004), City Art Gallery, Lodz; National Museum of Krakow, Poland (2010). Marysia Gacek lives and works in New York.
